Versaclimber UK, the Stourbridge–based fitness company, has announced a new partnership with Paul Cater, who is head of strength and conditioning at London Welsh Rugby Club and a consultant to professional footballers in Spain and the UK.

The consultancy role will see Paul helping to promote Versaclimber UK’s ‘Versapulley’ weightless exercise machine across Europe.

By using an entirely user-defined force, the Versapulley offers a versatile workout, which sees the user pulling a rope away from the machine to trigger resistance. The harder the rope is pulled, the harder the machine pulls it back when it retracts.

Paul agreed to act as an ambassador for the product after using it throughout his career to develop an impressive strength and conditioning programme that has been used to train some of the world’s top sportspeople.

After discovering the Versapulley as an American football and baseball trainer in the USA, Paul brought a Versapulley with him when he was hired by London Wasps Rugby Club in 2005. Since arriving in the UK, Paul has used the machine to train his rugby players and introduced the technology to football teams in Spain and England.

“In my opinion, rugby can be the hardest sport to train for at top flight level,” commented Paul.

“But over the last five years, I’ve found that the weightless training of the Versapulley helps to fill the gap that free weights leave in training the full power spectrum. The rotary inertia training that the Versapulley offers, gives me an invaluable tool to build strength, power and fitness for healthy and injured athletes alike.

“My career has been built on training programmes dependant on the Versapulley, and it helped me to secure my post at London Welsh, as well as my previous position at London Wasps.

“By acting as a consultant for Versaclimber UK, I’m looking forward to educating others in the sporting world as to how the Versapulley can be used to create world-class athletes.”

As part of the new partnership, Paul will be working alongside Versaclimber UK to educate users as to how best to utilise the machine, support other trainers that will use it with their teams and build specific Versapulley training programmes.

Neil Kelford, managing director of Versaclimber UK, added: “Paul is a true advocate of the Versapulley and the team is delighted to be working alongside such a renowned coach.

“Paul is already in talks with other rugby clubs and Premier League football teams with a view to them adopting the Versapulley, which really helps to cement our position at the forefront of strength and conditioning training.”
